About the event
Barrio is a beloved FCA tradition created to commemorate the creation of the Filipino American Studies class, currently known as AAST363: Filipino American History and Biography 🇵🇭📖. We bring attention to our shared history through a night of music, dance, food, and games. 🎶💃Together, we continue telling our stories between islands 🏝️and across oceans 🌊 as we gather in celebration. 🎊
This year’s theme, “Saan Pa Tutungo?” 🗺️📍(in English: “Where else are we going?”) draws inspiration from our shared Filipino and Filipino American history as we carry along with us the stories and culture from our ancestors that brought us together 🧑🧑🧒🧒🏠. Whether we come from one of the thousands of islands 🏝️ in the Philippines 🇵🇭 or across the ocean in the US 🇺🇸, we can all celebrate the Filipino journey together. Destination after destination, our people have been traveling far and wide, guided by the connections we’ve formed on the way and the stories that we carry along ✈️🌎. Barrio is another chapter in that story, one that reminds us that no matter where we go or how foggy the path ahead may seem, the love and history we carry with us will guide us through our journeys. ☺️
